The History of Binbrook

Binbrook and Glanbrook were two communities in Hamilton that were first known as “Upper Canada” in the 1700s, however, there is evidence of the area being inhabited by Algonquin tribes before that.

As the years went on, rural Binbrook became well-known as a close-knit residential community. At the core of the village, there were three churches including Knox Presbyterian, that acted as an anchor for the neighbourhood for many years.

The area feed mill, Armstrong’s General Store was the centre of activity in the community for many years, but as the village grew, it became more residential, attracting new residents. In the 1960s, the local Cybulski’s Grocery Store was a popular hub for residents.

In 2001, along with many nearby communities, Binbrook was amalgamated into the greater City of Hamilton. Today, Binbrook is still known as a popular residential community, however, the area has seen explosive growth over the past years with new housing developments as well as commercial developments continuously going up.
