I recently joined CHCH Morning Live to discuss the first half of 2026 and what home buyers and sellers can expect as we move through the second half of the year.
The real estate market continues to evolve, and while many of the headlines have focused on interest rates and affordability, there are a number of positive signs beginning to emerge.
During the interview, we discussed the latest housing market trends, the Bank of Canada’s decision to hold its key interest rate, the impact of easing inflation, and what these developments could mean for buyers and sellers across Hamilton, Halton, Niagara and the surrounding regions.
A Market That Continues to Change
The first half of 2026 has been another challenging period for the real estate industry.
Inventory remains higher than we’ve seen in recent years, giving buyers more choice and more negotiating power. At the same time, many sellers continue to wait for stronger market conditions before making a move.
While sales activity has remained below historical norms in many areas, there are encouraging signs that confidence is slowly beginning to improve.
The Bank of Canada’s decision to hold interest rates, combined with inflation continuing to trend lower, provides greater certainty for both buyers and sellers. As borrowing costs stabilize, many people who have been waiting on the sidelines may begin to re-enter the market.
Why Every Market Creates Opportunity
One of the messages I always try to share is that every market creates opportunities.
Today’s buyers often have more selection, more time to make decisions and greater negotiating power than they experienced just a few years ago.
For sellers, however, success requires a different strategy.
Professional marketing, accurate pricing, exceptional presentation and maximum exposure have become more important than ever. Simply listing a property on MLS is no longer enough in a market where buyers have more choices.
That’s why our team continues to invest heavily in marketing, technology and client service while many others have reduced spending. Our goal has always been to put our clients in the strongest possible position, regardless of market conditions.
A Strong Year for Michael St. Jean Realty
Despite the challenges facing the overall market, our team continues to grow.
We remain on pace for another year of positive sales growth and have continued to outperform the broader market by focusing on innovation, investing in marketing and delivering exceptional service to our clients.
Every market presents challenges, but it also creates opportunities for those who are prepared.
